Often inspired by objects found washed up on the beach around the coast of the island, she abstracts the natural forms of seaweed, pebbles and feathers, combining them with her textile designer’s eye for decoration in lively explorations of colour and form.
Polly is an island artist and illustrator working in ink and watercolour. After gaining a BA Hons in Surface Decoration at De Montfort University she worked in the textile industry for a number of years before moving to the island to concentrate on her artwork and raise a family here. Anything can feature from a penchant for Monster Munch and prosecco to hobbies, habits, quirks or careers.
She also works commercially and her versatility has enabled her to produce artwork for use in a variety of settings such as marketing, events and Press invitations to illustrations for website and even artists impressions for a theme park proposal.
The Technical Stuff
I draw using a dip pen and Higgins Black Magic Ink as I like the scratchy, fast way you have to work with them, then do the really small details using Uni Pin fineline drawing pens. I colour in the people using Windsor and Newton inks and the backgrounds using watercolour paints.
